World Refugee Day is commemorated on June 20 to raise awareness of the plight of the world’s 43 million refugees. Nonprofits serving refugees in Santa Clara County held a special event featuring traditional dances and foods.

Approximately 2,000 volunteers are needed in Oakland and San Jose this October 2013, for the Carter Work Project with Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley.
